Stephanie Peralta

Stephanie (she/her) is an Environmental Engineering undergraduate student at Universidad de Ingeniería y Tecnología, Lima, Peru. She joined thr Arlos Research group as research intern via the Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program scholarship. She assisted Emily Quecke in running bioassays as part of the Bioanalytical monitoring of Laguna Lake (Philippines) project to scope out environmental and human health impacts and water research priorities associated with organic chemical pollution. She is highly interested in biotechnology, microbiology, water resources, and ecology. She loves to dance, meet new people and places.
Jay France Macairan

Jay (he/they) is currently finishing his Ph.D. in Biology degree in University of the Philippines, Diliman. His research interests lie in the fields of cell biology, developmental biology, and molecular biology and genetics. He has experience working with a variety of biology-related laboratory work, including cell culture, zebrafish studies, and molecular work on fish tissue samples. Through the University of Alberta International and under the guidance of Dr. Maricor Arlos, he served as an exchange student working on gene expression analysis on Tilapia liver tissue samples sourced from Laguna Lake in the Philippines. Jay's visit is also funded by the University of Alberta Research Experience (UARE) Placement. Friends and colleagues describe him as an intelligent, hardworking, creative, and overall a humble student. Outside of academics, he is an avid video gamer, and he also likes to engage in creative activities like writing poetry, singing, and drawing.
